I downloaded ScanGuard hoping to speed up my MacBook. I do not want to buy it and cannot remove it easily. What do I do to get rid of it?

Have you tried quitting ScanGuard, then dragging the application from your Applications folder to the Trash?
If you can't quit the app try Force Quitting by choosing command-option-delete? Or, by launching Activity Monitor and quitting from there?
This uninstaller posted by ScanGuard does not work. I've tried repeatedly to delete it and a window pops up telling me the application is open and can't be deleted, when it is not open. This is a horrible program and I simply want to remove it as I do not want to buy it after foolishly downloading it's "free" version. Help!
You're welcome. It's best never to install any stuff like that. No Anti-Virus software or so-called cleaning apps are needed or recommended for Mac OS. They can conflict with Mac's own built-in security. At best they will slow your Mac by using unnecessary resources and at worst will bork your entire system.
