Upload old Photos folder to iPhone using MacOs Photos App

Hi

Im trying to take 2 folders and upload it to my new iphone, without doing any itunes sync. With iPhoto you use to be able to just drag and drop to upload on your connected phone... but wont let me do this.

Any idea how to do this avoiding any iTunes sync option

Thanks

Ok not as simple as drag & drop but you can use iTunes to sync photos to your iDevices : Keep your photos safely stored and up to date on all of your devices - Apple Support

Sync your photos manually with iTunes

You can set up iTunes to sync photos to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from the Photos app, or from a folder on your computer. Each time that you sync your iOS device with iTunes, the photos and videos on your iOS device update to match the albums on your computer. If you have photos on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch that aren't on your computer, follow these steps to import them.

  1. Make sure that you have the latest version of iTunes.
  2. Open iTunes on your computer.
  3. Use the included USB cable to connect your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your computer.
  4. Click on the device icon in iTunes.
    User uploaded file
  5. In the sidebar on the left side of the iTunes window, click Photos.
    User uploaded file
  6. Click the box next to "Sync Photos." If instead you see "iCloud Photos is On," all of your photos and videos are already on all of your devices that use iCloud Photo Library. You don't need to sync them through iTunes.
  7. Choose the app or folder that you want to sync from.
If you choose to sync a folder with sub-folders, the first level of sub-folders will appear as albums on your device.
    User uploaded file
  8. Choose to sync all photos and albums or selected albums.
  9. Select "Include videos" to sync the videos from your app or folder too.
  10. Click Apply.

You must import Slo-Mo and Time-Lapse videos through the Photos app or Image Capture in OS X Yosemite or later for their effect to be synced via iTunes. When you use iCloud Photo Library, Slo-Mo and Time-Lapse videos keep their effects.

Live Photos keep their effect when you import them to Photos in OS X El Capitan and later, but they lose their effect if you sync them back to your device via iTunes. Use iCloud Photo Library so that Live Photos keep their effect, no matter what device you use.

If you're syncing from Photos, only your System Photo Library is available in iTunes.

Even when I try to sync with iTunes it wont let me select the photo folder... I have all my photos and photo app library on an extern. HD. So even selected it wont work... Plus then it deletes my other music/apps/etc...

Why cant you simply drag and drop like how I did before.. makes no sense

If the photo "folder" you wish to copy to your iPhone is part of the Photos library, you can't "safely" access it directly. But what you can do is go into the Photos app, open the album/folder you wish to have moved to your iPhone, export the photos to another folder (name it iPhone). Then iTunes should be able to access that folder, whether it is on an external drive or not.

However, I believe you would need something aside from the built in Photos app to access those photos once they are on your iPhone. You can probably view the files using the Files app, but not sure if Photos will then be able to import them. Might need another app to view the photos directly.

What I dont get is that for years whenever I get a new iphone it automatically copies everything in the photos app, but for some reason its not copying anything before 2015... It should be a simple auto copy.... but its blocked and this work around method isnt working... Why cant apple just do drag and drop as iPhoto always has done... Any way I can bring my photos before 2015 on my phone an easy way??? Please help!

Thank you,
