Touch ID not working

I have a new MacBook Pro with Touchbar. My fingerprint no longer was working. I deleted all fingerprints, then tried to add Again. Now I get an error when I click to add a fingerprint. ‘Failed, Unable to complete Touch ID enrollment. please go back and try again.’ I get the same message when I try again. I have also created a new ID and tried from the new ID, same result.

Hi there, Dpandrews,

Congratulations on your new MacBook Pro! From your post, I see that you're having a bit of trouble getting Touch ID set up on it. When you try, you get an error that states "Failed, Unable to complete Touch ID enrollment. please go back and try again." I would be happy to help!

Based on what you've described, I would recommend first resetting the computer's System Management Controller (also known as the SMC). You can find out more about the SMC, and how to reset it, here: How to reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac - Apple Support .

After you've reset the SMC, check to see if you can enroll Touch ID. If not, make sure you have a backup of your Mac ( How to use Time Machine to back up or restore your Mac - Apple Support ) and then reinstall the macOS software: How to reinstall macOS - Apple Support .

Once the reinstallation is finished, try enrolling in Touch ID. If you still cannot, don't hesitate to respond back.

Cheers!

I have this problem too: "Unable to complete Touch ID enrollment" on trying to re-add my fingerprint on High Sierra on a MacBook Pro. Reset the SMC, and just spent the last 3 hours reinstalling High Sierra. Still no dice. In fact, I encountered the same message even when completing the setup wizard on a fresh install. Had to skip Touch ID setup to get the Mac working again.

Is there any way of doing a hard reset of the Touch Bar? Anything else I can try before enduring the pain of taking it to a "genius" to solve the problem?
