Use of the Apple Watch requires an iPhone to pair with, and if you wish to use the cellular part of the Apple Watch, it requires an iPhone and a plan with your carrier. The Apple Watch mirrors the information on the iPhone SIM to work. Not sure whom you spoke to from Tech support, however it is not doable, and you cannot install the Watch app on the iPad.

Yup,

Just to add confirmation, The Apple Watch will not work with ANY iPad or iPod Touch, ONLY iPhone.

I wish Apple would change the watch to, least, work with the latest iPod Touch models, too!

I am still using a Pebble Watch that interfaces with both my iPad Pro AND my 6th gen iPod Touch.

Still working, but smaller Li-ion batteries, in these types of smart watches will not last as long.

When my Pebble watch goes, I do not know what I will, eventually, get to replace it as I, currently, do not own or use an iPhone.

Chris, thank you for your reply. It is very specific and I appreciate it.

I already paired the watch (both GPS and cellular) with the iPhone (AT&T). However, when i purchased it from the Apple store the associate told me I will be able to pair it with my cellular capable iPad. Later on the phone Apple tech support told me the same think. When I went to the ATT store to swap a SIM card from the iPhone to the iPad, the associate could not find an Apple Watch App to be downloaded to the iPad, and I can not find one as well ?
