iPad can't discover Paypal chip reader

I got the new Paypal chip reader and need to pair it with my iPad so I can use it. Bluetooth on the iPad is spinning and spinning, never discovering the Paypal device. The device has no interface so I can't force it into pairing mode. Anyone have this problem with a similar device? How did you get it to pair with the iPad?

Just got this from their site. What a pain trying to get information about these things. PayPal Here | Chip and Swipe Card Reader Guide | PayPal US

After watching a video from PayPal, it almost sounds as if you turn on Bluetooth and pair the device through their app on the phone. Very minimal support from their site for this reader. Seems it is supposed to be compatible with iOS, but I think you need to have the app open. Not sure exactly what PayPal may have told you, but this is how I interpret it on their website.

Good suggestion. Lots of little BT devices require an app.
