Hi there, I recently bought a Mac after seeing their commercials on how easy they are to set up and use. FOR ME THIS HAS NOT BEEN THE CASE. The main website that I use, www.investors.com, has charts that are not compatible with Mac. So, I bought Virtual PC with Windows XP Pro. OF COURSE, I soon found out that this software doesn't work with the Intel based Imacs! Argh. So then I bought Parallels Desktop but it is not picking up the Windows XP Pro from the Virtual PC disks. Do I need to buy Windows XP now? Is there a special Mac version? Where can I buy this software or does anybody have any other suggestions? This has been very expensive and frustrating for me. All help appreciated very much, thank you!
I have no idea if this will meet your needs since I'm not familiar with the www.investors.com website, but have a look at CrossOver Mac from <http://www.codeweavers.com>. This application allows an Intel Mac to run Windows applications without Windows. This may allow you to run Internet Explorer so that you can access your site.
Thank you both for the quick response. It appears that Cross Over is going to solve my problem. I have a 60 day trial so I should know for sure by the end of that period. I've spent enough on Microsoft software at this point without any benefit so I'm glad that I don't have to purchase xp pro. Thanks again!!
Hi, I've been thinking of buying a Mac and I have also been an Investors.com subscriber for years, so I am acutely aware that I want the best possible solution to the
compatibility problem. Has your situation been resolved to your satisfaction, will buying a Mac with XP or Vista
pre-installed solve the problem? Or would I still need to
get Cross-over?
I currently have a Dell w/Windows XP and would prefer not to have to buy another PC. Your advice would be most
appreciated.
