Activity Monitor : hidden processes and kernel_task

Dear all,

My Activity Monitor was showing a relatively small list of running processes/operations.

I don't remember well but my belief is that this list was not headed by an operation called kernel_task.

However, after a given reboot, perhaps one during which I cleaned the NVRAM, a considerably number of new operations appeared and are since then appearing in my Activity Monitor.

Some operations are duplicate in that they are the same, though one belongs to the user (admin) and the other to the Root. Also, the kernel_task operation is now leading the list of the running processes/operations.

Is this normal? If not, what could have happened? How to correct it?

Thank you very much for your answers.

All the best,

RM
