Cannot get Word for Mac to stop randomly resetting language from default (English US) to other random language.

I'm using Word for Mac on my MacBook Pro running High Sierra and I cannot get it to stop reverting my language to something other than the default language I've set (English US). It switches to Portuguese, Spanish, French - seemingly randomly. I've reset default many, many times. I've searched this discussion board and I've followed many differing solutions offered, and none of them work. This happens with existing documents and with new documents.

For Word problems, the best place to search/ask is the forum run by the people who make it

When posting there, be sure to specify which version of Word you are talking about, 2011 or 2016. If 2016, make sure you have updated to the latest version (15.41 I think), and specify what you mean by "language" -- is it the keyboard layout which is changing or the spellcheck language.

While you set a default, there are other considerations that Microsoft Word may choose.

And this may or may not be user-adapted for easier preference setting in future. There

used to be an easy to use Support Help for microsoft topcs; but didn't find it now.
