iPad “left” screen layout in iOS 11

Just updated to iOS 11 on the iPad and the “left” screen layout has changed over to the iPhone style layout rather than the two-column layout I had previously. Is there a way to get this to change back to the two columns? I tried the “edit“ button at the bottom but it just gave me options for what to include in the list. While I could imagine someone axing that format from the new iOS, it is, for me, inconvienient and inefficient to have just the single scrolling column. I would like to see my news and calendar items side by side again.

Hi dvoelfreeline. For whatever reason, the Today pane in iOS 11 is a single column. You cannot change it. Sorry.

So the link to the user guide was helpful in figuring out it is the “Today View” I’m having trouble with. It confirms what I know I can do with the new iOS but doesn’t list an option for two columns to format it like in iOS 10.

It looks like this is last years, 2017 iPad 5 (5th generation).

Everything has changed in iOS 11.

Multitasking now works differently in iOS 11.

Maybe you need all of this to help you properly learn to use and navigate iOS 11.

Not 100%, but it’s not an air, not a pro, 9.7”, new in the last 2 years. The “model“ in the settings lists MP2H2LL/AA1822 (there may or may not be a duplicated “A” there). iOS10 is what I had on it just prior to this and it had the double column option available. Can’t remember if I enabled it or not though.

Also,

iOS 11 is an all 64-bit OS.

That means any apps on your iPad that are older 32-bit apps that haven't been updated, in the last 2 years, or so, to the new 64-bit code will no longer work or function after you have upgraded to iOS 11.

There is no way to get to the data in these older apps once you upgraded your iPad to iOS 11.
