How to block spam emails by blocking their senders' IP address?

Hi all,

I've received many junk emails that were shown to be sent from my own email address. I've been extremely disturbed by these emails because Mac Mail won't block my own address, let alone delete them.

I poked around on the Internet and learned something. Here is what I've tried:

I found the original IP address of the junk email by following these steps:

User uploaded file

User uploaded file

This works. Here is what I found about the junk email I received:

Received: ⁨from localhost (127.0.0.1) by nettab.magilogger.com id hc1nr016lt0v for <my own email address>; Wed, 17 Jan 2018 10:03:47 -0500 (envelope-from <contact@nettab.magilogger.com>)⁩

So 127.0.0.1 should be their original IP address? And I applied the rule in Mac Mail:

User uploaded file

Note: "...contains 'X-Originating-IP: 127.0.0.' " Having them to be moved to mailbox 127 is just for me to check if this all works. And it turns out that those junk emails coming from my own address failed to be put into mailbox 127, meaning that I just received those emails as usual.

Is it because Mac Mail still not scanning the full header of the sender's address? Or is it because these ways are too old to be working for today's Mac Mail version?

Just FYI: I'm using macOS High Sierra, version 10.13.2, and Mac Mail is version 11.2 (3445.5.20). I've seen many people talking about SMTP and DKIM. I've tried to understand what they are and locate them on my Mac or anywhere else, but I still couldn't make sense of them.

If someone could point out where the real problem is, where I did wrong, that'd be great! Of if I was in a totally wrong direction, and you could offer an effective solution, that'd be even more wonderful! I really appreciate your help! Thanks!

localhost or 127.0.0.1 is your computer's localhost address. It is a non routable address on the Internet and only points to your computer. In a broader context, everyone's computer has the 127.0.0.1 or localhost address.

You are doing nothing to block spammers by doing what you are doing. Spammers use electronic means to change their ip addresses, smtp servers, and to spoof innocent peoples email accounts and addresses including your own computer's locahost address as you found out. They send out thousands of emails automatically changing sending identification information. If you could reliable block spammers you would be rich. We've been dealing with these scum since the first email was sent years ago. But keep trying.
