Sync music on Apple Watch without Apple Music subscription

Is it possible to sync a playlist of music ripped from CD-ROMs in iTunes to the Apple Watch?

Basically I would want to sync playlist of local music that I have inside my iTunes library to iPhone(and that is possible) and then sync this playlist with the Apple watch: is that possible ?

Is it working just with an Apple Music subscription?
