My friend and I bought the same Macbook Pro 13' late 2011, she has night shift and I don't.
Is she not supposed to have it or I am supposed to?
It was funny, though, to discover she has more features in settings than me. I was trying to figure out which was her colour profile, because my screen looks more yellow than hers. Ironically.

So your friends must be a slightly younger model.
There is a free app called flux if you are interested which performs the same function and a little more.

Night Shift was introduced later than Mountain Lion, the OS version you indicate is on your computer. She is likely running a different version fo macOS. See How to use Night Shift on your Mac - Apple Support.
Your MBP doesn't support Night Shift. It's too old.
Can you show the whole of the About This Mac panel, it has info on the graphics card on the mac which may be a clue to why you don't have NightShift. If you can post your friends About This Mac panel too that would be handy.

It is not beyond the realms of possibility that though you bought them at the same time you actually got two slightly different machines.

Did you two buy them at an Apple Store or somewhere like Best Buy?
Your profile shows 10.8.4. Click on your avatar at the top left of the page where sign out is. When the window opens, select View Profile, and edit My Products. Helps those who are trying to help you.
Check the Version of Software that you are running. The current version is 10.13.2 High Sierra and it has Night Shift
