Shift Control Command 4 shortcut, not working

Hello,

I just got a new MacBook Pro today. For some reason the old shift control command 4 shortcut to take a picture and save to my clipboard is no longer working. It makes the camera clicking noise as expected, but when I go to paste via command v, nothing happens. I even checked the keyboard settings in the System Preferences and that item is clicked, so it SHOULD work. Any other ideas?

machack, adrienne2007 is correct.

The relevant section is at the end of the web page under "Learn More"

Command-Control-Shift-4 will allow you to take a screen shot directly into the clipboard.

adrienne2007, what are you trying to paste into?

I just did a Command-Control-Shift-4 and was able to paste into TextEdit window (Rich Text)

Preview -> File -> New From Clipboard worked just fine

Mail allowed me to paste into the body of a new mail message.

Oh yea. I wanted to say, maybe try booting into Safe mode to see if there is some other software interfering with your ability to take screen shots into the clipboard

This would just be an experiment and based on the results, move on from there.

You should also try an SMC reset and an NVRAM reset

BTW - Rebooting mostly worked. Now I can paste on everything EXCEPT Outlook . . .

I'm glad you are back in business.

While I have never used Outlook (so I claim ignorance), I would check a few things.

Look at Outlook -> Edit -> Paste. Does using the menu entry work?

In the Paste menu entry, Is it the standard Command-P, or does Outlook specify a different Paste keyboard shortcut?

Did Outlook allow you to Paste images in the past?

Does Outlook allow you to drag and drop an image file into a mail message you are composing (such as the kind created by Command-Shift-4).

Doing some google searching ("outlook paste an image"), is the Outlook message HTML format? Or plain text?

Weird - There must be something wrong with my computer. I used to do this all of the time -- I do interior design work and so this is probably my most used function. I have tried pasting into an Outlook email, and I have even tried pasting into a Pages document with both the shortcut and the old fashioned way and neither is working. Every time it just pastes the original picture that I couldn't get to paste at all before macjack's help. I'll try rebooting I guess.
