The CD icon does not appear on desktop

I have a MacBook Sierra 10.13.2 w/a Super Drive for CDs & DVDs. However, recently the CD icon stopped appearing on my desktop when I inserted a blank one into the drive. I checked w/Finder, System Preferences, etc. and even tho all the correct boxes are clicked on, the icon still doesn't appear. To confuse things, DVDs and CDs which are not blank still work. And when I opened disk utility, it shows up. But how can I move it so I can burn data onto it? Thank you in advance!

Hi

Sounds exactly what my SuperDrive did in my late 2009 iMac. It might of gone to SuperDrive heaven mate. Not uncommon that these give up a few years out of warranty.

My entire iMac died last week and is not worth fixing. That was about 6 or so years after my DVD drive went.

Cheapest fix for you, external DVD burner. I had one lying around I used but in reality never really used it.
