iOS

Scam popups, phishing attempts, “virus”alerts, etc

1. Force Close Safari. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201330

2. Clear history and website data from Safari: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201265

3. Stop pop-up ads on Safari

Pop-ups and ads in Safari

"If you see an annoying pop-up in Safari, you can go to the Search field and enter a new URL or search term to browse to a new site.

If you don’t see the Search field on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, tap the top of the screen to make it appear.

Some popups and ads have fake buttons that resemble the close button, so use caution if you try to close

a pop-up or ad. If you're unsure, avoid interacting with the popup or ad and close the Safari window or tab."

Why are you yelling at us? Do you mean on Android you can edit a table on our phone and prevent every website on the planet from being browser hijacked? That is very impressive. Seems a surprise that android has 99% of the known mobile malware if they have built in things like that.

You enjoy your android phone, I don't care if you get one or not. I would suggest you don't get one from Huawei or ZTE.

What could possibly make you think Apple has control over the entire Internet? It doesn't matter what kind of phone, browser or cell provider you're using. If you're online, you're going to see ads. If you have email, you're going to get spam.

You must have hundreds, if not over a thousand entries in your Android host table. Yeah, that's a lot of fun adding another of billions of possible IP addresses to block every time another ad gets through. Which would be daily.

Make it easy on yourself and install an ad blocker. I have the free AdGuard on my iPhone 6s and it works great.

June 2018. How I fixed the “Congratulations Amazon User” pop-up ad in Chrome. I got around it by doing this. I shut down iPhone and then powered on iPhone and immediately went into Airplane mode on my iPhone. I started the Chrome app and then deleted the Chrome ‘tab’ where the pop-up ad originated. I also deleted all browsing data for the current day. Now I closed the Chrome app and unchecked Airplane mode on iPhone and then restarted the Chrome app. The pop-up problem disappeared. Caveat, don’t revisit the website where the “Congratulations Amazon User” pop-up originated until Chrome releases a new app version that hopefully squashes the pop-up problem. I also use a browser app called “Brave” that is user configured to clear browsing data when the app is closed. Just to be brave I used the “Brave” app and revisited the web page that generated the pop-up problem. The “Congratulations Amazon User” problem never occurred while using the Brave app. Thanks “Brave” for being Brave! I hope this helps you defeat the pop-up issue. Chrome just doesn’t like Newsbusters.
