conditioning iphone 6s plus battery

Im pretty sure the battery on my iPhone6s+ is on its way out.

Battery percentage drops unexpectedly and will only last half a day or so....

Anything i can do to ‘condition’ the battery before i can get it replaced at the end of next week?

Conditioning doesn't do anything; there's actually no such thing for Lithium chemistry batteries. On rare occasion recalibrating the battery gauge can help. Note that his is specifically for the gauge, and has nothing to do with "conditioning". Discharge the battery until the phone shuts off, then charge it to 100%.

But before you do that get the app Battery Life and check the condition of the battery. If it's capacity is below 80% you need a new battery. Apple will replace the battery in a 6S+ for $29, but there will be a wait as batteries are in short supply. See: iPhone Battery and Performance - Apple Support and A Message to Our Customers - Apple

So I’ve now managed to get to an Apple store appointment to get my phone battery checked. The result of that was, “Apple wouldn’t change it as it was above their 80% threshold etc.” It was explained, that they could order me in a battery that I’d have to pay for, but due to supply.... already mentioned here... I’d have to wait. Also I was told it probably would do much as my battery ware wasn’t that bad.

A possible reason for my shut downs and poor battery performance and it now looks likely, is third party apps.

It was recommended that I “restore my phone” as a “new device,” which I always feel is a bit of a cop-out. Just like the I.T. Department telling you to shut down and then restart!

However, I have two year warranty cover and I’m not prepared to spend the £25 to get a new battery.

So I opted for the restore... it’s a pain, but not the end of the world just a few apps that I use on a daily basis to redownload, that I didn’t setup a recovering email and lost all my info, but that’s not any disaster.

So day three of restored phone and the BATTERY a PHONE appears to be ACTING as NEW.

Result! It’s stopped all the crashing/hanging/shutting down of the phone too.

So before you wait weeks for an Apple store appointment then forget it and have to book another appointment. Try restoring as a new device.

BACKING IT UP FIRST.

Remembering the third party apps you use the most and set up a recovery email address for them before the restore!

At least then you’ll go to an Apple store armed with the knowledge, you’ve done a “restore” and the phone battery is still bad etc.

My poor Waze points are gone forever!

Hope this helps anyone having battery issues.

Thanks mci rock for sharing your experience here.

Many times, answering to posters in this community, we suggest basic troubleshooting steps like restore iPhones to factory settings and set them up as new, giving them clear and simple support guides to perform this operation.

When they read our answers, it looks like we've asked them to climb Everest.

Most of them don't seem to understand that often, very often, these steps resolve a lot of problems / issues.

Thanks again for your contribution.

Giulio
