Macbook pro charger will this one work

I have a macbook pro 13inch mid 2009.

The 60w charger lead has gone.

Looking at the page showing which charger you need it lists the one.

The problem is the apple store no longer sells it.

They do sell a 60w charger for the retina.

Would the 60w retina charger work on my macbook pro.

Im not worried about the actual magsafe as it should fit/work ?

Sorry for the link for the retina at the apple shop.

Also screen captures showing the 60w charger starting at late 2009 and mine mid 2009.

You seem to be randomly looking in the index. Try this "Table of Contents":

Find the right power adapter and cable for your Mac notebook - Apple Support

• The newer MacBook Pro Retina are so thin, they require the thinner MagSafe-2, which does not fit the older, chunkier style port.

• T-shaped and L-shaped of the same type (MagSafe or MagSafe-2) are interchangeable.

• Use a wattage the same of HIGHER with impunity; lower causes trouble with charge and run at the same time.

This is the equivalent, an A1344. It’s perfectly compatible.

If you’re buying from Apple, you might consider the 85W adapter. It won’t charge any faster, but some believe it runs cooler with 60W input machines compared to the 60W adapter. Apple states that it’s safe and compatible. The price from Apple is the same.

Hmm...I didnt realise that the body of the magsafe was thinner.

I was thinking of this one since it has a T magsafe

Apple 85W MagSafe 2 Power Adapter - Apple (UK)

But if the body is thinner thats not going to be very good either.

Also the links that y_p_w posted for me, the bodies are going to be thin as well.

So Im stuck really.

The only other thing I can think of is buying a used on from ebay, but then again In not going to be sure if it's ok.

I'd recommend the 85W one. I've never had a problem with either of my 60W ones that came with my late-2007 MacBook or mid-2012 MBP, but I've heard claims that it tends to run cooler. Apple says it's fine.

You can use a compatible higher wattage adapter without issue, but it won't make your computer charge faster or operate differently.

A MagSafe 2 head might work, but I believe you would have to hold it in place. They're electrically compatible, but I don't know of anything that Apple sells that would work like the MagSafe to MagSafe 2 converter.

So I thought I would do a follow up.

Excuse the username. For some reason I could not get in on "Negativepitch"

I contacted support. I got through to Canada which in turn they put me through to Kentucky.

There was a 10 minute wait between getting through to Kentucky, so we had a nice chat about the weather.

Anyway, I asked the same question as I have here. Kentucky were not able to help so they put me through to sales in the UK.

The guy had a look on the chargher link page. I said I had already looked there.

He said the Retina was 60w, which I already knew.

I explained that I think since mine ended 2009 and the Retina started late 2009 and both being 60w, all they have done is change the shape of magsafe for the new release of the Retina.

He agreed but obviously could not say yes because of apples rules etc.

So I am going to order the Retina.

Thanks for that.

I have spotted three magsafe 1's L magsafe.

I know You could never be 100% from ebay.

With the L magsafe I was just a bit worried if it would clear the body ok as well as when the screen is up.

Two of the magsafe say genuine refurbished and one says original apple brand new in box.

Is it possible you could have a look at them. I realise that if any, the final decision would be down to me.
