What is AnySearchManager.com

What is AnySearchManager.com and how do I remove it? All of my searches are being redirected to Yahoo and I understand that it may be Adware software installed when I upgraded my Adobe Flash Player.

Thanks!

2. Disable all extensions and test.

3. Choose a search engine.

Delete all text in the Smart Search field, click the magnifying glass , then choose a search engine from the list.

In addition to what has been said here, I've seen some cases where AnySearch has triggered an odd bug in Safari. In cases where adware has changed the home page setting, that can leave you stuck with an inappropriate home page, even after all the adware has been removed, with seemingly no way to fix it.

The following procedure appears to solve the problem:

* In Safari, choose Preferences from the Safari menu.

* In the window that opens, click the General icon (if necessary)

* Enter your desired home page in the "Homepage" field, but DO NOT press return!

* At the top of the window, click any of the other icons (eg, Tabs, AutoFill, etc).

* You may see a prompt asking for confirmation for changing the home page. If so, confirm.

* Switch back to the General page and check to make sure the home page has been changed.

This is not not in relation to this thread, but I did not know how to ask this of you directly...

I saw in a years old response to another that they should not use CleanMyMac. I do not use it myself, but at a new job, my boss has it installed on all his macs. Could you explain to me, so I may relate to him why he should delete it from his systems? I know it is essentially an application that can be harmful, and do the opposite of protecting his Mac. I am just not educated enough to explain it. He just sees advertising for it, and thinks it will be beneficial. Can the same be said of Malwarebytes? Or Sophos?

Thanks everyone for the information! I didn't really want to download software that I wasn't sure of, so I managed to go into Safari preferences > Extensions, and noticed a default extension sitting there that I couldn't get info about on the Apple sites - hence it must not be something Apple put there. Once I removed the extension, I found that Google, which I had at one time used as an additional browser, was open in my tray and kept getting an error message. My very smart friend suggested that I download Chrome again (because there must have been something left on my machine when I got rid of it) and somehow we were able to get rid of the extension in Chrome too, and I haven't had the problem since! Nasty thing, though!

Well, the short answer is that Macs do not need that kind of "cleaning." Anything offering to "optimize" or "speed up" your Mac by "cleaning" it is either deliberate snake oil or is created by misguided folks who think they're doing good but aren't. If your Mac is having a performance problem, you should address that directly, rather than using an automated tool that will - at best - cover up the symptoms.

For more details, I'd recommend searching these forums for "CleanMyMac", and you'll find countless opinions.
