how to connect a G-Drive mini with firewire800 cable to the new iMac. There seems to be only USB 3 available on the new iMac.

Does the G-Drive Mini not have both FireWire and USB connections...?
If it does, then you should be able to plug the supplied USB cable into one of your new iMac's USB 3.0 ports.
Buy an adapter. Apple may sell one and look on Amazon. If you cannot find one then you must chance using Apple's Thunderbolt 2 to Thunderbolt 3 adapter along with Apple's Thunderbolt 2 to FireWire adapter. I don't know if that will work but it would be your only solution.
Another solution is to remove the drive from the G-Drive and install it in an external USB 3.0 enclosure. You will find a suitable enclosure at OWC.
