iMovie Video Editing Artifacts MacOS High Sierra
Intermittent video artifacts during and post video editing in iMovie version 10.1.8. Hardware: iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, late 2015). 3.3 GHz Core i5, Memory: 24GB 1867MHz DDR3. AMD Radeon R9 M395 2 GB. MacOs: High Sierra 10.13.2. Importing video from Canon Vixia HFM41 HD CMOS PRO. Recorded in 1080p i60. Environment: Indoor sports (gymnastics). Lighting fair to good. Please help. I've tried to export the video through Quicktime by lowering the resolution down to 720p and 480p. Unfortunately, the video artifacts remain unchanged. I've search around and folks are saying this happens in iMovie based on several factors: the camera shot in 1080p i60 (interlaced), environment with low lighting (dark areas), and codec processing issues in iMovie. Recommendations suggest to upgrade to Final Cut Pro or use alternative video editing software. I'm not in the market for a high end expensive video editing software. I do simple videos capturing gymnastics and volleyball indoors. I was counting on Apple's iMovie to achieve simple video editing for indoor sports. I had an older 24" iMac before the upgrade and had no major issue with artifacts using that older hardware and software. BTW: Videos recorded in low light with Canon Vixia HFM41 is excellent and looks great on my 60 inch HDTV. Please help!
