RAM Compatibility (2017 iMac)

Per the Apple website the following type of RAM is compatible.

Use Small Outline Dual Inline Memory Modules (SO-DIMM) that meet all of these criteria:

  • PC4-2400 (19200)
  • Unbuffered
  • Nonparity
  • 260-pin
  • 2400MHz DDR4 SDRAM

I see some RAM at BB however it shows speeds

up to 2666 MHz (link)

or

up to 2400 Mhz (link)

There there is this third one (link) that appears to be just like the second link.

What is the difference in these...I just want to be sure to get the right stuff.

Thanks.

I had no idea Corsair had a bad reputation. I just looked at that after seeing a known Mac fansite upgrade using that.

Corsair and Kingston appear to share the same issue: they have two tiers of RAM based on quality and therefore price. As a rule the higher-priced version from either company works in Macs but is terribly hard to find or even assure yourself what is being offered is the top-tier version. Because the RAM market is so price-sensitive, few resellers stock more that just the cheaper, not-happy-in-Macs versions.

You often have to order their premium RAM directly from the manufacturer at a price that can cost as much or more than OWC or Crucial. I avoid problems by using only OWC RAM for all our Macs plus those I support for others for well over a decade and it works without issue every time. I need look no further.
