HomeKit / HomeBridge setup AppleTV 4

Hi all,

I started a new post on the HomeKit challenges I have. I've been reading a lot and trying all the solutions proposed but still having issues.

Hardware (Software):

- iPhone X (iOS 11.2.2)

- Apple TV 4 (tvOS 11.2.1)

- All devices in the same WiFi

- All devices are logged in with the same AppleID

Whats the problem: Apple TV 4 doesn't show up as a Home Bridge (never did) (its my first time setup)

- HomeKit doesn't show up within my AppleID account details on the AppleTV

- No home bridge visible within the Home application on my iPhone X

What I already tried to solve the problem

- Updated Apple TV to latest software

- Updated iPhone X to latest software

- Removed AppleID from AppleTV and restarted device and logged in again (No luck)

- Removed "Home" from the Home application on my iPhone X and restarted device and added a new home also with a new name (no luck)

- Removed Home sync on my AppleID settings, removed home re-added home, enabled Home sync again (no luck)

- Removed keychain on my AppleID on my iPhone X and re-added it (all passwords are gone ggggrrrr 😠 )

- I've waited several days so it might show up as some explain, but also no luck

- Tried AppleTV back to factory

- Re-installed the Home app on my iPhone X

- All above I've tried in different order and always with restarting devices hundreds of times

I did not tried it with a new / different AppleID, this is something I don't do. I'm not planning on creating a new AppleID just to get this working.

Anybody who solved the mystery of the Home Bridge issue which a lot of people experience? If yes, please let me know.

Thanks in advance

Maarten

Well it is working.... only thing I think of is I added 1 device. after added 1 device to my home, Apple TV showed up

So everybody should have at least 1 device added to your home... I did not see this in any discussion.

Yeah, It's very tricky and shouldn't be this hard, Homekit is not ready for primetime yet.

Remove any users from homekit and remove homekit from the iPhone.

Sign-off iCloud on Apple TV and iPhone.

On Apple TV do a reset with update.

Restart iPhone.

Add homekit to iPhone.

Login iCloud Apple TV.

Login iCloud iPhone and turn-on bluetooth.

Check if Apple TV shows connected on Apple TV screen.

Check if Apple TV shows connected on iPhone on the homekit app, touch the nav icon.

Check if Apple TV shows-up on your devices on the iPhone.

Turn-off bluetooth on iPhone to see if the homekit devices still shows up.

Let us know how it turns-out?

I had the same issues, playing around it's all about the sequence of events in the proper order.

FYI, homekit devices on bluetooth needs to be not to far away from the Apple TV for connections.

My Apple TV 4 Gen has a better bluetooth range then my Apple TV 4K, I wasted my upgrade. LoL

Hi,

So I did the following:

  1. Removed any "homes" from the Home app and removed the Home app from my iPhone.
  2. Logged-off iCloud on Apple TV and iPhone.
  3. Reset of my Apple TV with update.
  4. Restart iPhone.
  5. Added homekit to iPhone.
  6. Logged in to iCloud Apple TV.
  7. Logged in to iCloud iPhone and turn-on bluetooth, also everything is ON within my iCloud settings
  8. Check if Apple TV shows connected on Apple TV screen > I did, Under accounts my iCloud account was visible
  9. Apple TV is NOT connected on iPhone on the homekit app. Nothing is shown, only myself as user
  10. Apple TV shows-up within iCloud devices on my iPhone (never removed it here).

So its not working 😟

Both iPhone X and Apple TV 4th gen are on the latest software (both on 11.2.5)

So now I tried the following:

  1. Removed any "homes" from the Home app and removed the Home app from my iPhone.
  2. Logged-off iCloud on Apple TV
  3. Removed "Apple TV 4" from the devices within my iCloud account on my iPhone
  4. Logged-off iCloud on iPhone without saving data locally on my iPhone.
  5. Reset of my Apple TV with update.
  6. Restart iPhone (really off and on again).
  7. Added homekit to iPhone.
  8. Logged in to iCloud on iPhone (two factor authentication is enabled) and turn-on bluetooth, also everything is ON within my iCloud settings and Apple TV is not visible within the devices within my iCloud account on my iPhone. This is correct because its still re-installing completely
  9. Restart with update (back to factory settings) is now ready and I configured Apple TV automatically with iPhone
  10. Apple TV shows connected to iCloud on Apple TV
  11. Apple TV is visible again under my devices on iCloud on my iPhone
  12. I opened the Home app on my iPhone (while sitting next to my Apple TV and bluetooth is on)
  13. I press "Get started" and navigate to the top left (navigation icon)....
  14. No Apple TV visible, only myself as user and option to change the background Home name and delete home
  15. Also when I navigate to my iCloud account on my Apple TV, I don't see any Homekit options.....
  16. Restarted my Apple TV again (just a simple restart) and still nothing on both devices
  17. Restarted my iPhone again (just a simple restart off/on) and still nothing on both devices

Small note: Apple TV is connected with cable and using the same network as my iPhone (double checked network on both devices)
