iPad now has icons on the bottom of the screen in a rectangular box that get in the way of Words with Friends. I drag them away and they come right back. How do I get rid of the whole thing? If I don't hit the letter in the game perfectly, the game goes into the background.Thanks

Hi kaybeau. The new floating Dock is normally hidden in apps. It appears if you swipe gently up from the bottom edge of the screen. Try to avoid that swipe.
This is called the Dock.
It is a permanent and integral part of iOS. There is NO way to “get rid of it”.
The Dock, basically, is the same bar that is at the bottom of your screen, now on your iPad 3.
That botom row of icons and folders of icons IS called the Dock.
The only difference in iOS 11 is that it now “floats” and is no longer anchored to the bottom of the screen and now holds up to 15 icon locations.
You’re not being left out of anything.
It's function is the same in iOS 11 as it was in iOS 9, just more expanded.
wait... seriously? the newer iPads are now getting a "desktop" feel to them?!? sheesh... so now not only am i left in the dark by still using my old Gen 3, they are adding features just because they want their tablets to be more computer like?!? hmmm... smdh.

I can't avoid it when I play Words with Friends. Just not possible given all the letters are on the bottom with the dock. The think about the dock on my MacBook Air is that I can hide it.
