cursor freezing on macbook air

I have a MacBook Air (13-inch, Early 2014) which I'm very happy to use as it is a handy size and not at all bulky.

However I do have a problem every time I start off with it.

After signing in it is very fast in allowing me into the desktop none the less the cursor gets frozen.

The only remedy I have found is to restart, sometimes I restart just once and other times I have to make an effort of a couple of times. I have seen this issue existing before but there must be a better solution...

macOS High Sierra (10.13.2)

Hello Sam,

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities. I understand you've had some trouble with your trackpad cursor hanging up, and I have some information that may help.

In cases like this, it may help to reset your SMC (System Management Controller), which controls the different hardware systems in your Mac. Have a look at the article below to learn how.

If the trouble persists, It may help to test the behavior with an external mouse to see if the same problem occurs.

If you run into any trouble, please reach out again.
Best Regards.
