SMS backup and restore

This may have been asked before, but I am really frustrated with apple for not addressing this and not having a reason for it. If any one can help with documented experience I would love to hear from them.

Here is the situation.

I use my phone for business. I have clients that SMS quite detailed messages and I need to retain these ON MY PHONE. However every so often I have a problem with my phone and the suggestion from Apple is to wipe my phone and start again. I understand the meaning behind wiping my phone and starting again. I have done this in the past and the problem has gone away. Now, most items on my Phone are in the cloud and recoverable, such as emails, photos, music, book etc... But this list does not include SMS messages. There is no way on an iPhone to restore only SMS's to the phone.

The response from Apple has been "find a third party that can do this". Come on Apple this is not acceptable. We are not dealing with a toy here, this is a critical business device with critical business information.

If any one else has this issue and has found a "decent" solution, then please let me know.
