Cannot add Google Calendar to Calendar on Mac

I'm trying to link Calendar in High Sierra to my Google calendar. I have followed all the steps for adding an account, and get to the point in the dialogue window where I specify which applications are to be linked to Calendar. I click on Done, the Done button greys out, but then nothing seems to happen. I have tried adding this account both to the general Internet Accounts in System Preferences and in Add Accounts in the Calendar app. Same result both ways -- the Done button greys out, the dialogue window stays open, but nothing seems to happen. What am I doing wrong? I know I am entering the Google email address and password correctly, because I've confirmed both by logging directly into Google thru Safari.

Hello, Don H.

It's my understanding that you're unable to add your Google account to the Calendar App. I have some suggestions that may help. You've already done a great troubleshooting step by making sure there are no issues with your credentials. Make sure that your iMac is up-to-date for macOS software. Here's a link just in case: macOS Sierra: Keep your Mac up to date Next make sure that you have the required ports open for the calendar: TCP and UDP ports used by Apple software products
80 TCP Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) 2616 http World Wide Web, FaceTime, iMessage, iCloud, QuickTime Installer, Maps, iTunes U, Apple Music, iTunes Store, Podcasts, Internet Radio, Software Update (OS X Lion or earlier), Mac App Store, RAID Admin, Backup, Calendar, WebDAV, Final Cut Server, AirPlay, macOS Internet Recovery, Profile Manager, Xcode Server (Xcode app, hosted and remote Git HTTP, remote SVN HTTP)
443 TCP Secure Sockets Layer (SSL or HTTPS) 2818 https TLS websites, iTunes Store, Software Update (OS X Mountain Lion and later), Spotlight Suggestions, Mac App Store, Maps, FaceTime, Game Center, iCloud authentication and DAV Services (Contacts, Calendars, Bookmarks), iCloud backup and apps (Calendars, Contacts, Find My iPhone, Find My Friends, Mail, iMessage, Documents & Photo Stream, iCloud Key Value Store (KVS), iPhoto Journals, AirPlay, macOS Internet Recovery, Profile Manager, Back to My Mac, Dictation, Siri (iOS), Xcode Server (hosted and remote Git HTTPS, remote SVN HTTPS, Apple Developer registration), Push notifications (if necessary)
5223 TCP Apple Push Notification Service (APNS) iCloud DAV Services (Contacts, Calendars, Bookmarks), Push notifications, FaceTime, iMessage, Game Center, Photo Stream, Back to My Mac
11211 memcached (unregistered use) Calendar Server
If none of those are the issue, try seeing if you can create the account under a test user account and safe mode:

Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac

Let me know if this helps.
