High Sierra guts Graphics performance

Hello Apple et al

Running High Sierra 10.13.3 on a 2016 Mbp 15" 2.7GHz i7 16GB w/Intel 530 + Radeon Pro 460

Before High Sierra, I finally had a Mac that could Max out graphics on all my favorite games. Since then, its a dog. FPS is halved or worse, and I have to cut resolution almost in half.

I'm pretty sure its the APFS...but gang I've been waiting and waiting and waiting for an update to address this...3 major updates already and nothing that fixes my graphics processing from running like my a dog.

Can you at least tell me if you are working on it?

- thanks

MacBook Pro (15-inch, Late 2016), macOS High Sierra (10.13.3)

I suggest you use the program created by Etresoft, a frequent contributor. It will provide a snapshot of your system which we can analyze to possibly determine the cause of your problem. Please use copy and paste as screen shots can be hard to read. On the screen with Options, please open Options and check the bottom 2 boxes before running. Click “Share Report” button in the toolbar, select “Copy to Clipboard” and then paste into a reply. This will show what is running on your computer. No personal information is shown.

Apple does not reply here.

There have been plenty of reports of poor graphics performance on certain Mac models, such as Slow Graphics Performance MacOS High Sierra. Like all similar Discussions there is too much disinformation in it to be useful. Its presence on this site just serves as a placeholder for others to pile on.

The recent update was intended to address poor graphics performance, so if you are still having trouble despite having updated macOS you should Contact Support.

EtreCheck won't hurt. Perhaps something else is going on. Whatever it is, it's not APFS. A file system is unrelated to graphics performance.

You're not the only person to find this.

Lots of other users have posted here in the forum about the same issue.

I wiped my laptop and reinstalled Sierra to go back to a machine that was usable again.

I'm not sure that its the APFS file system, I'm no expert though, I think it is apples implementation of Metal2 to boost graphics performance, but it seems to destroy performance on some GPUs.

Mine is an early 2013 15" MacBook Pro with 16gb ram and 256gb ssd. I have both intel HD4000 onboard graphics and a discreet Nvidia GT650m.

Everything works fine under Sierra, but frame rates drop to 1 and 2 under High Sierra.

I'm hoping to hear that someone has installed todays update 10.13.3 and it fixes everything...
