2017 iMac 21.5 Retina Slow as heck!!!

Bought this new iMac a few months back and I gotta tell you, this mac is a huge dissapointment. I have always had macs and every time i bought a new one I would see a performance improvement, not this time. This new mac is actually slower than my previous 2007 iMac. I suspect one of the main reasons is the memory issue with this mac, in order to upgrade the memory the machine has to be torn apart, there is no access door to the ram on this model. Shame on Apple for putting this out there, a computer where the ram slots are inaccessible to the user gee what a great idea!

I bought this mac not realizing that this was built like that, I didn't think that Apple would do something like that so I had no idea until I was going to upgrade the ram myself and than I'm like "What the ****" where is the little access door for the ram.....there is none! The joke is on you says Apple!

Apple really dropped the ball on this one, Do not buy this model iMac its useless, you can barely run Photoshop or Illustrator on it without getting the spinning beach ball constantly. Now I'm stuck with this high priced web browser, as thats about all you can do with it, and its even slow at that.

Here is my performance report when I have Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat open in background.

your running bit-torrent and if you are getting anything other than linux distros then all of your software is in question.

remove spotify

Shut down

Disconnect all external devices but OEM mouse, keyboard

Reset the System Management Controller (SMC)

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295

repeat 2/3 times

Reset the nonvolatile random-access memory (NVRAM)

(OPTION+COMMAND+p+r at Startup)

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204063

repeat 2/3 times

Then use safeboot (SHIFT at Startup)

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201262

Then reboot normally with devices disconnected.

in the mean time use etrecheck to remove the adware and/or malwarebytesbut don't expect a solution until you remove whatever OS X apps you are pulling from torrent sites.

8 GB is plenty of RAM. Adding more would not prevent you from installing a bittorrent client or adware.

Did you try that?

Jan 25, 2018 4:04 PM in response to John Galt

8Gb of ram is not nearly enough to run memory intense applications like Photoshop or GarageBand , your kidding right?

What does running bit torrent have to do with anything anyway, I’ve since deleted it and had to reinstall the OS. Did it fix any slowness, maybe a little bit not much. Since the ram can’t be upgrade unless you littterly tear the machine apart unless you pay a hefty sum to Apple to do it your stuck with a paultry 8gb of ram.
