Import of Sony Avchd files

I tried to import videofiles from the SD card of a Sony nex-vg20 camera in the FCPX import window. The .mts files appeared in the event of the library. However the sound is corrupted. The videoimages of the clips seem to be fine Before i dis not have this problem. What has been changed ?

Do you have Perian or A52 installed?

You may not realize it, as it may have been there for years.

Perian would appear in System Preferences, in the last row.

The A52 codec may be present in /Library/Quicktime or ~/Library/Quicktime.

Both of these are known to cause sound disappearing in AVCHD material.

Some years ago, Perian was really useful as it supported opening a number of video files directly in Quicktime Player.

I had it installed on my macs for a long time. But it has been discontinued for a while now, and should not be used. Like you, many users installed, and never looked back until recently, when it started to conflict with current software.
