I unwittingly enable my Iphone to keep only thumbnails and only the full picture to be on Icloud. I dont want this enable how do I turn it off?

Go to Settings > your-name-apple-id > iCloud > Photos. Then uncheck Optimize iPhone Storage and check Download and Keep Originals.

Many thanks this was just what i wanted. It is just that I now automatically download to a photo cloud that keeps all my photos and does not delete if I take them off my phone/ ipad etc. Just a secondary question if that ok, will those that are thumbnails come back as full photos to my phone or will I have to retrieve from Icloud?

Warning: If you delete a phone from your phone, it will also be deleted from the cloud.
Otherwise, clicking on a thumbnail should open and download the photo if you have a data connection.
