My Apple Watch won't Ping My Phone

My apple watch won't ping my iPhone, let me use siri, receive/send texts, or pull up the weather. I've had the Watch for a month and am now unpairing and re-pairing it. What causes my iPhone to lose my apple watch connection even though the little green iPhone appears as if it were paired? If I have to do this every month then there is a problem. How do I keep them from losing their connection?

Hi

The ping iPhone feature on Apple Watch only works when the devices are connected via Bluetooth:

I suggest that you follow the instructions here, if necessary including unpairing and re-pairing your Apple Watch:

If your Apple Watch isn't connected or paired with your iPhone - Apple Support

For the best performance from your iPhone and Apple Watch, including the most power-efficient communication between them, be sure to keep both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi permanently enabled on your iPhone:

If you have not yet done so, also be sure to update your iPhone and Apple Watch to the latest compatible software versions, starting with your iPhone:

It can be normal for your Apple Watch to become disconnected from your iPhone under certain circumstances, but they should reconnect automatically when they are able to do so again.

It may help to check for and, if possible, limit any potential sources of wireless interference:

If and when your Apple Watch and iPhone become disconnected unexpectedly again, it may help to follow the instructions here:

If the issue persists and you are concerned about a potential hardware problem, then I suggest that you contact Apple Support (remote diagnostics and/or mail-in service may be available, if required), make a Genius Bar reservation or visit an Apple Authorised Service Provider for assistance:

Hi

I suggest that you follow the instructions here, if necessary including unpairing and re-pairing your Apple Watch - including if your Apple Watch suggests that it is connected, but does not behave accordingly:

Have you found a solution to your problem? I began having this same issue yesterday after I had updated my apple watch (1) with the new SW during the night and then updated my phone (iPhone 6) later during the day. Mine also has the green icon as if they were connected and my phone claims to be connected when I check the Bluetooth setting but the watch app on the phone cannot access any information. I would hate to unpair these if it means I'll lose all the activity data for yesterday as it never synced after the SW update on my phone.

Same problem here, it happened after the last watch and iOS updates. The watch is paired, but I don't get texts or call notifications on the watch anymore. Also previously the watch would automatically be connected after charging when opening the phone. Now I have to enter the passcode on the watch every time. I have to think this is an issues with the past updates.

Hi Jonathan, I followed your instructions and the pairing issue now seems to be fixed, but I have lost 9 days of workout data plus all my apple pay card details (at least I can reconfigure those). I had the same issues as the others in this thread, so I unpaired the watch and phone, which looked as if it had completed successfully but afterwards the watch was unpaired but the phone was not. I was encouraged that the phone had, at least, taken a backup of my watch and after much hesitation I reset my watch to factory settings and set it up again from scratch, since unpairing it had turned it into nothing more than a big single-function device for telling the time. Some of the watch configuration is restored from the backup, but not all of it, e.g. the workout data for 9 days has been lost. It has taken up a couple of hours of my time to try the various solutions and now I still have to reconfigure Apple Pay on the watch. I wonder if I should have waited for a software fix, since this all happened after the last one. I have had a policy of applying updates immediately, but now I wonder if I should wait a week first to see if they are going to wreck my data 😟

Thanks anyway for the advice, at least the watch is now working again.
