Treo 650 iSync Issues

I've been working on getting my Treo 650 to sync, but despite trying to download more recent software and COMBO packages have been unable to fix the situation. Now I'm working on making Pacifist work, which is also an issue. It says it can't open Pacifist... Michael, thanks for your help... here is what the only sync I have ever completed on my Treo actually says when it comes to the iSync issue:

Couldn't open users file /Library/Application Support/SyncService/501/PalmConfiguration.txt, skipping iSync 12/18/06 11:11:56 PM
OK iSync Conduit

Since this one log, I have never completed an isync. My Treo just immediately says there is an error initiating sync...

Thanks for the help...

MAC powerbook G4, Mac OS X (10.4), couldn't tell you, sorry

Interesting. Navigate to the 501 folder along this path:

Macintosh HD:Library:Application Support:SyncService

Select it and choose Get Info from the Finder's File menu. At the bottom of the information box is the Ownership & Permissions section, which should indicate that you can Read & Write to this folder. Click on Details: to show more information. Does it indicate that you (as shown by your short username) are the owner and that you have Read & Write access?

If so, open the folder and select the PalmConfiguration.txt file. Does it have the same permissions profile?

The inability to open the Pacifist package is also problematic, and may represent a permissions problem, the lack of a suitable means by which convert it from an archive to an install package, or that you have a corrupted copy of the file.

Have you ever used the Disk Utility application of repair disk permissions?

To change permissions manually, select the folder, and choose Get Info from the file menu.

First click the arrow to the left of the Details label. If you are not shown as the owner, there maybe other issues involved. In any event, above it choose Read & White from the drop down menu labeled Ownership & Permissions.

Typically, under Details: you should see…

Owner: <shortusername> (that's your short user name, whatever it might be)
Permissions: Read & Write

Group: staff
Permissions: Read only

Others: Read only

Press the Apply to enclosed items button to insure that any changes apply to the subfolders within your 501 folder, and close the information box.

It's grayed out and won't let me change it. I am sure something happened when my dad used it - I know what password he used when downloading things, and I've never had any trouble before getting software... here there is no option to "unlock" this section. The 'owner' has a little metal lock next to it. I'll have to ask him what he did in case this is where the problem is... I'll keep working on it...

Thanks again

I know this is moving slowly, thanks for answering questions... I am able to download software, and now we have installed this program called MISSING SYNC FOR PALM OS. It's supposed to help, but still nothing. I'm afraid this is past the "discussion forum." I might have to take this thing in, or send it back. Without the iSync ability, it's of no use to me...
