Can you use a separate iTunes library just for Apple Music?

Hi, I want to sign up to Apple Music, but I don't want it to affect my existing iTunes library and have no need for my current songs to be uploaded to iCloud Music.

Can I create a new iTunes library just for Apple Music so that any songs I download for offline use will only appear in my Apple Music specific iTunes library? If so, what would happen when I open iTunes with my original library - will iTunes start uploading my music to iCloud Music automatically when I don't want it to?

Finally does iCloud Music automatically populate with iTunes store purchases linked to my Apple ID? So if I open iTunes with a new empty iTunes library and join Apple Music will my iCloud Music library be empty or will it contain iTunes purchases?

Thanks.

Hi,

Yes, you can use a separate library for Apple Music Open a different iTunes Library file or create a new one - Apple Support

You main library will not have any Apple Music provided that you don't turn on the icloud music library - your library will be matched or uploade if turned on. I happily use separate libraries, one for iTunes Match/Apple Music, the other for my Apple lossless tracks.

The new library will include previous iTunes purchases. You will have to add any music that is not available in Apple Music.
