iCloud performs unauthorized backups

I have iCloud turned OFF. I do not want my backup in the cloud. I check frequently that my data is NOT being backed up. Today, I found that icloud has performed a backup. How do I keep iCloud from invading my privacy without permission? I have deleted and turn off, but what is turning it back one and how do I prevent that?

Hi, 2bc4me,

Thanks for stopping by the Apple Support Communities. From your post, I understand you do not wish to use iCloud to back up your iPad, but have recently seen that an iCloud backup has been performed. I'm happy to help!

First, if you'd like, you can delete any backups stored in iCloud, at any time: iCloud: Remove an iOS device backup from iCloud .

If you would not like to use iCloud at all, simply sign out. If you are not signed in, there is no way a backup can be created, on purpose or automatically. You can do this under Settings > [your name]. Scroll to the bottom and select Sign Out. You can sign into the iTunes and App Stores separately under Settings > iTunes & App Store.

If you would like to keep using iCloud for other reasons, just not to back up, go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud > iCloud Backup and verify it is toggled off. If it is and you continue to see backups being created, please try the following:
  1. Restart your iPhone (Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support)
  2. Sign out of iCloud, and then back into it, making sure to keep the Back Up option off (Sign in with your Apple ID - Apple Support).
Should the issue persists, don't hesitate to respond back.

Cheers!
