My weather widget does not update the weather anymore. I will have to reboot my phone for it to work for few minites and then stuck again. Is it anything to do with the Apple iOS updates or its just my phone. Your help is very much appreciated.

Hi, Leslie,

Thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities. From your post, I understand that you're having trouble with the weather widget. Specifically, it does not seem to be updating the weather as expected. I'm happy to help.

Since restarting does help temporarily, but not permanently, the next suggestion I have is to make sure your iOS software is up to date: Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support .

If the iOS software is up to date and the issue continues, check your date and time settings to make sure they are accurate: How to get updated time-zone information for your Apple device - Apple Support .

I can also suggest removing, and readding the widget: Use widgets on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support .

Have a great day!

Hi i_rina,

Thanks for your help. However, I am running the current update in my region which 11.2.5 and I have tried all those options you mentioned. I thought that maybe there is something else that can help. Maybe I should just email the developers and let them know because I am not the only one experiencing that. If you have other tricks in your bag, I am game!

Thanks.

Are you connected to Wifi? If not, do you have Weather turned on under Cellular? What have you done to try to resolve the issue? This is not a widespread problem as the OP made clear even in their situation. So, if you are having an issue, then you need to go through troubleshooting steps to determine what is causing it. It has nothing to do with Apple, and Apple isn't here anyway as this is a user to user support forum.

Well I have LTE 4G WiFi all day everyday. At home, at work and in my car. Plus I’m not new to the iPhone and technology that I don’t understand what I’m talking about. And this is the first time I have ever been ****** at a widget. This has nothing to do with my settings or my network. I know all about location services and background refresh that could affect this and everything is set well. This has everything to do with the widget and the region settings the developers set in the language they used to develop the app. It’s a simple tweak of a command line. That’s all. Well thanks for trying anyway.

I didn't ask about Location Services and Background Refresh, I asked about your Cellular settings. But, if you have Weather turned on in Cellular settings, then the next thing you would need to do to determine if it is a hardware problem or not would be to:

Back up your device to iCloud or iTunes: Back up your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch using iCloud or iTunes - Apple Support

Then erase it using one of these methods:

How to erase your iOS device - Apple Support

iCloud: Erase your device

Find My iPhone: Erase your device

Then set it up, but don't use the backup - set it up as a new device.

Sign into the device, and then work with it for a few hours to see if the app is now updating regularly. If it is still not updating, then there is a hardware issue and you can take it into Apple to have them look at it.

If it is working as expected, then erase the device again and restore it from your backup. See if the problem returns. If it returns, then your data is corrupted, and you will have to set up your device manually.

If the problem is resolved, then you are all set.

See my post above to eliminate hardware or corrupted software issues. I, personally, am having no issues with the Weather widget, and since this thread is only a single page long, it is not considered a "widespread" problem here. The problem with looking at Google for these things is that you count each and every entry as being the problem, when in many cases, they have zero to do with it.

And BTW - I see entries for issues with iOS as well as Samsung and Android, so not sure you have actually made your point since the issue seems to be across platforms.

The list just goes on and on with threads regarding this specific issue. Isn't that wide spread enough for you?

BTW, why do you have to drag android into this? Just silly.

I am not really interested in your statistics nor your hysterics. Apple is not here, so taking your venom out here is pointless. We are users. So, beyond the recommendations we have provided up to this point, there is little more to offer. You can try the recommendation I made if you wish to determine if, in fact, it is related to the hardware, or you can continue to simply carry on with the cause.

I’m one that’s had this issue for a while now and I’ve Restored with a backup, Restored as new, Deleted and reinstalled app, Reset Network Settings, Forced Restart and even tried opening different apps first that have a temperature connection ie. News and Maps to kick it into action, nothing seems to work or last.

The only good news (for me) is that my issue appears intermittent, while some have the Widget fail and that’s how it stays. If I try first thing in the morning it may not update, but an hour or two later all is ok, but the next day the morning works fine but later in day it gets stuck again, just no common factor that I’ve been able to discover anyhow.

The only thing I have found is when it refuses to update if I leave it on that screen for a minute or two it then updates, but that really defeats the object of what the widgets are for, ie. a quick way to access data!

And just for the record, the App it self works fine, go figure!

So, until someone fixes (I really mean Apple), I’m no longer using the Apple supplied Weather App/Widget, been using the BBC Weather App for the last few weeks and it updates (App and Widget) within a few seconds every time, in fact quite happy with it’s data that if the Apple one gets sorted still might not go back.

This is the discussion I used while trying to resolve the problem that the last few posts state that 11.3 (beta) might have sorted, we will have to wait and see though.

I've not had any issues with the Weather Widget working correctly for me, but I do prefer the app called Living Earth. It has this cool 3D earth that you can spin as fast or slow as you want, it accurately depicts which parts of the earth are in daylight and which are nighttime. It expands the every two hour forecast at least 4 days or so in advance, as well as has a lot more meteorological information:

Thanks, will give Living Earth a closer look but accuracy of forecast is my main concern which depends largely on the source it uses and sometimes the intended market, I've found some US derived weather apps not that accurate for the UK, but suppose it would apply in the reverse as well, so giving them a run is the only real way to know. A quick look at there web site shows they appear to use the same source as Apple's, so might be good.

Must say it's very strange how only some are being effected by this widget update issue, and because of that I suppose it must make it more difficult for Apple to pin down the cause, still wish they would get a move on though, hate anything like this because it messes with the OCD element in me! It's certainly a background issue though, because I've noticed sometimes when the News App opens no temperature appears, but if closed and reopened all is ok again, plus it happening with both the iPad mini 2 and the iPhone X, but funnily enough not the Mac's weather notification, so doesn't appear to be location dependent or would expect all to be failing.

At the moment though I'm finding the BBC App very accurate and reliable across both devices, some have commented on the interface not being intuitive enough (or to there liking), but my priority for any information app is accuracy and reliability, anything else is secondary, this app satisfies both, plus the icing on the cake, it's free.

My weather widget does not update the weather anymore. I will have to reboot my phone for it to work for few minites and then stuck again. Is it anything to do with the Apple iOS updates or its just my phone. Your help is very much appreciated.
