Listening to iPod music on TV

Is it possible to hook up my iPod 5th Generation to my tv to just listen to music? In other words, use my TV speakers as external speakers? I have an audio cable (non video, not from Apple) but do not know how to procede. Grateful for help.

If you have an RCA (Red and White) to 1/4" mini (headphone) cable and connect it to your TV/Home stereo's available component ports, then change that device's input to match (Input 1, 2, 3 or AUX. Which ever the port you used was labeled) you'll be in business.

Like this ( http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0926INGFS10 061181&catid=21263#) Though I'm not advertising the brand or store. Personally, I have been using the Apple ones ant they work as advertised. You won't, however, get any visual feedback on you tv's screen Just sound out of the Speakers.

I finally got it to work, thanks to all for your kindness and time. There may have been something wrong with the audio cable I bought. What I finally did was to use an AV cable we had, and flipped yellow and red around (white goes on white) and it's working. To quote the Beach Boys (now playing on my tv) God only knows what I'd be without you! Thanksa again!

Although the question is answered here, there are still some cases, where this won't work. Some TV sets do not give an audio output unless there is a video output streaming along with it. For this you can use your iPod as a Photo slideshow presenter, hook up your Apple iPod video cable (or buy another one with replacing color sockets respectively) and start a slideshow of a small amount of photos. When the slideshow ends, the iPod will still play music but your last photo will remain on screen (unless you choose to repeat the slide show in the photo settings on your iPod). This way you can get visual feedback on the volume level but you won't be able to skip songs, since the back/fwd button are kept for changing photos, not music. I would recommend choosing your playlist before starting your photo slide show. Also make sure in your photo settings to choose a playlist or simply 'now playing' if you already were playing that playlist you want to listen to on TV. Remember that this will consume the iPod battery at a higher rate than only playing music.

I have a similar problem. I want to connect my iPod to my McIntosh Preamplifier C33 (20+ years old) to listen to music from the iPod via the stereo speakers in the house. I've connected it to the auxiliary port, but I get weak sound. Is there a device to amplify the signal? Since my auxiliary port is also used for my Nakamichi CD player, I am employing a splitter to connect directly to the auxiliary port and the iPod and the CD player then connect to the splitter. However, that way I get NO SOUND from the iPod. I suspect the signal is too weak. Is there a solution?

I would HIGHLY recoommend you do NOT do this as you are feeding the output of the devices into the output of the other device (as well as the input to the aux).

Connect the iPod straight into the aux input.
You will likely have to adjust the iPod volume to get good sound out.

Did you know the computer name Macintosh is licensed from McIntosh Laboratory, Inc.?)

I'd love to know if anyone knows how to get get decent video volume via the TV. I too can play music via my IPOD through the TV and get o.k volume. But when playing videos back there is hardly any volume on the soundtrack. Plenty of volume if watching videos on the IPOD and using headphones/buds, but minimal volume playing videos back thru a TV. This is using the same cables and connections etc etc. Seems there is an issue with the audio output on these units ?
