Pages - can't add new Style or new Character Style - button greyed out

I came across the issue where I couldn't create a new character style or a new paragraph style.

It turns out that you can't create new styles if you are collaborating/sharing the document.

To create new styles, stop sharing/collaborating, then you can add your styles. Re-share the document afterwards if you need to.
