Multiple VPN Connections

Hi All,

I'm trying to configure my VPN to accept multiple connections and am having some problems. I'm hoping someone can shed some light on what my problem is.

I'm using OSX server with an unlimited license. I've got VPN enabled and have enabled PPTP only with the starting IP address at 10.0.1.220 and the ending at 10.0.1.240

I can log on one user but when i try to add a second user, the system goes into 'negotiating' for 20-30 seconds then errors out with the message: connection terminated by the communication device. Please check your settings and try again.

I'm fairly certain the issue is with the number of connections because if i log off the first person, i can log on with the user settings that i get the error above with.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Lynn

Are you trying to connect two users from the same location? And is that location using a single IP address?

If so, you're going to have problems. The VPN protocol only supports a single connection per IP address. When two devices from the same IP address connect the server has trouble differentiating traffic between the two.

Some routers/NAT Devices make a better job of supporting multiple VPN connections, but if yours isn't one of them then you're out of luck.

I'm really sorry to differ and possibly cause more headache's, but you can have more than one vpn connection from one location. it doesnt look at the external ip address, it takes each separate connection from the client site and attach a new ip from the vpn server related to the MAC address.

I've had a successful connection with two computers at the same location using a NETGEAR dsg384g at the server end (allowing multiple vpn's) and a more heavy duty router at the client end (cant remember code).

It is to to with the amount of VPN connections allowed from the client end, and usually not to do with the server end.
