Apparently the Apple music app is not compatible with my Samsung s8 phone. Anyone know why? Is there a way to adjust settings to make the phone compatible?

I had the same issue. Install Aptiod and download it from there. Works great!
Google "Aptoid" from your browser or go to https://en.aptoide.com From there you can download the app.
The Apple Music App for android may not yet have been updated to support newer Android versions and devices. Apple has not been updating it as frequently as expected.
For now, there's not much to be done but wait until its made compatible with newer Android versions and devices.
Also, this is a user to user forum, as such it may take time for a user that actually knows something to see the thread and post an answer. If you don't get an answer in a reasonable amount of time, its often useful to bump the thread by posting in it without the attitude, as it tends to drive users with potential answers away.
There is a Contact Support link at the top right of each page of these forums. You might also try looking on forums for Samsung phones.

By the way I own 9 Apple devices and one android. My families been loyal to Apple since 1992 when my wife was a teacher.
