Unable to Verify Update. The Watch OS update couldn’t be verified because you are not connected to the internet.

Last week I successfully updated my watch OS. This week I received another update request. With my Iwatch plugged into its charger and having it charged 76% and connected to the internet, I get the following message when I try to run the verification and update:

Unable to Verify Update. The Watch OS update couldn’t be verified because you are not connected to the internet.

MacBook Pro (15-inch Mid 2012), OS X El Capitan (10.11.2)

Hi

First update your iPhone to the latest compatible software version:

Update the iOS on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

Then follow the remaining steps to update your Apple Watch to the latest compatible software version:

Update your Apple Watch - Apple Support

If you are unable to install the update, then it may help to follow the steps in the second article under the headings "If you need help updating" and/or "If you installed an iOS or watchOS beta or developer seed" as appropriate.

However: do not interrupt your iPhone or Apple Watch (not iwatch) if the process has already reached "installing". Note that you may need to scroll up on your iPhone screen to see the current status.

If the issue persists, then it may help to unpair and re-pair your Apple Watch. The software will be updated as part of the process. Again be sure to update your iPhone to the latest compatible version of iOS first:

These standard recommendation have not helped. I'm still unable to update my watch to 4.2.3.

I continue to received the message:

Unable to Verify Update. The Watch OS update couldn’t be verified because you are not connected to the internet.

I've noticed a number of threads in support, each offering multiple suggestions including pair and unpair, etc. None of these standard solutions help. It would be nice if Apple Support would get on this problem.

A bump to Apple support, and a bit more information - I have the same problem; I’m using an iPhone X with iOS 11.3 and I have two apple watches - a black steel model, and a Hermes model. On the same wifi network with the same iPhone, I can update the Hermes, but not the steel watch. I tried to update the steel model, failed, updated the Hermes, succeeded, then went back to the steel - still no luck. It’s not the network, it’s not the phone - the problem is with the watches. I’ve reset the steel model multiple times - no help; is there a ‘deeper’ factory reset? A way to update firmware?

Please check which software is running on your iPhone and Watch. It might help to update your iPhone first, the latest versions are iOS 11.3.1 and Watch OS 4.3.

Check you have a solid internet connection including WiFi for your iPhone before you start the updates, and be aware the last update has a reputation for being slow to load so make sure you have time to complete.

I had the same issue and the problem was INITIALLY solved went it was sent back to Apple for a firmware update; however, with each new WatchOS update I have the same problem. My Watch (also the steel watch) has been sent in twice. Now I'm on my third update issue -- and I've spent hours on the phone with Apple unable to resolve the issue.

Things I've noted:

1) Seems to be with the steel Apple Watch

2) Doesn't matter what iPhone is used (the Apple Store tried one of their new phones and had some connection issue)

3) All of the current Apple suggestions do not resolve the connection issue(re-pairing, erasing the phone and watch, powering on and off, etc.)

4) My Apple Watch shows "no SIM" and will no longer allow me to sign-up for cellular after previously having it and cancelling.

I sure wish Apple would come up with a solution or exchange these defective watches. Sending the phone in each time the software needs to be updated isn't a solution - considering the cost of the Apple Watch. I'm curious if anyone else is having similar issue/notes -- and is this just on the steel watch?
