My son would like to play "Words with Friends Classic" by Zynga with me. I could get it on iPhone but I think I'd have difficulty seeing it now my sight is deteriorating. Would it possible to download and use this app on my MacBookPro?

To clarify, Words with Friends is only available for iOS devices. Zynga, the developers (not associated with Apple in any way) have not made a version that can work on a Mac.
You may want to contact Zynga directly and inquire about a version for Macs.
@Jacob: Macs have an App Store too. The important bit, is Mac apps are different than iOS Apps.

No. Your Mac runs macOS High Sierra. Previously known as OSX.
iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touches run iOS.

No, an iOS device would be an iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch. Your Mac runs OS X.
