Where do screenshots go in MacOSHigh Sierra?

According to the instructions, they should go into my desktop, but that's not happening. And when I press control, then command shift 3, as instructed, to get a version I can email, nothing happens.

I used to find them in All My Files but that has disappeared.

I did find a screenshot in my User file but it was unusable.

Help.

MacBook Pro, macOS High Sierra (10.13.3)

In High Sierra All My Files has now been replaced by Recents do you not see the screenshots appearing there.

If you want to see what keyboard shortcuts are set for screenshots open System Preferences> Keyboard> Shortcuts>Screenshots (Control.Shift, Command 3 saves screenshots to the Clipboard)

The default for saving screenshots is the Desktop, but as this is not happening, is it possible you have installed a third party app that has changed the destination location for screenshots.

If you go to Spotlight enter the text Screen Shot (the default naming of screenshots is Screen Shot with the date following) now scroll down the list and select any of the screen shots that appear under the Images section and press the Command key, you should now see the path to where the file has been saved.
