After a data transfer to my new iPhone, how do we re-sort my contact list so that it is cataloged by last name, instead of first name?

After a data transfer to a new phone how do we re-sort the contact list. For some reason after the data transfer I can only find my phone contacts by their first name, not by their last name as I cataloged them.

Have you checked Settings > Contacts > Sort Order?

Also note that how the contacts are sorted and the order in which the first and last names of each individual are displayed are separate settings.
