If you mean it's louder than normal, try resetting the SMC.

What iMac and what macOS? It is certainly not iOS 10.1.
What software update? and what is it doing when the fan rushes?

Do not do that.....including using software to regulate the fan. The system is engineered to use the fan when cooling is needed.
I would reset the SMC.
