Am I just paranoid?

I recently upgraded to an IPhone 8 from the old IPhone 4s. However, I am worried that my old phone will still be able to receive emails, messages, calls, and other personal information. I have already signed out of my Apple ID on Messages and Facetime, but my IPhone 4s and 8 share the same number. Does this mean that my old phone will still be able to receive messages from my new one or will it not?

Two phones can not share the same number.

Follow the instructions here: What to do before you sell or give away your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

Then, remove the SIM from your old phone.
