Rename iPhone under “Device Info”

I renamed my iPhone 8 Plus in iTunes and under the about section of general in settings. But in my Apple ID section in settings, the phone is still called “MarieM’s iPhone 6” then the second line says “This iPhone 8 Plus.” How can I eliminate the part about my iPhone 6 and just have it say “Marie M’s iphond 8 Plus?” I transferred the content from my 6 to my 8 with the normal set up process/iCloud transfer.

iPhone 8 Plus, iOS 11.2.5

Hello MarieMaty,

Thanks for asking the Apple Support Communities about renaming your device. If you changed your device name, then restored the data, the name came from the backup. I recommend changing the name again now that the data transfer is complete. This article will help: Change the name of your iPhone, iPad, or iPod - Apple Support

If you just changed the name or it was changed after the data was restored, I recommend forcing the Settings app to close: Force an app to close on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

When you reopen Settings, the name should be updated.

Another possibility is that iCloud has not updated the name yet. Since you just renamed it, you will need to sign out of iCloud, and then sign back in. Before signing out of iCloud, I recommend having a backup of your data. You can make a backup in iCloud or iTunes using this article: How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Once you have your backup, you can sign out of iCloud on your device. You may receive an alert about specific items from iCloud being removed from your device, but once you log back in, these items will repopulate. Once you sign back in, the name should be updated across iCloud and your device. Thanks and have a wonderful day.
