Why does Safari open on start up?

I don't know why but recently Safari and the Safari extensions tab have been opening on start up/when I turn on my mac. I'm new to macOS so I'm not sure why this is.

I have checked that in my dock Safari does not say "open at login", but it still opens anyway.

Additionally, does anyone know how to remove a Safari extension from the list when it does not have the "uninstall" button underneath? I've only noticed it recently (its McAfee SiteAdvisor if that's relevant) and I can't find it anywhere in Finder or Spotlight. It only appears to exist in Safari Preferences.

Thanks 🙂

Have you checked System Preferences/Users & Groups to see if Safari is in your Login items?

For the extension, check the hard drive level Library/Extensions and in your user Library. Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Select Library/Safari/Extensions.
