importing m4a files in fcp

I am making a movie in fcp an need to import music. M4a files do not import. Why? And what do I need to do?

I did convert to AIFF in iTunes and still sayswhen trying to import (File Error:1 file(s) recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknown) Also when importing, it says readable files and my files are not highlighted. Only when switching to all files I have access to them. But that file error appears as above.

Convert the audio to AIFF, then import the AIFF into FCP.

Try converting to something else and see if you still get an error. Try .mov or .wav, etc.

I tried to convert in iTunes to aiff again and this time it worked. iTunes- Preferences- advanced- import using aiff.
