How to get calendar invites to come in as iCal and not as Google Calendar invites?

Hi All,

I use my gmail account as my apple ID and maybe 10 years ago used google calendar. I have since moved all my calendar to iCal, but every invitation someone sends to my gmail accounts gets detected as a google calendar invite.

Any way to make sure they come in as iCal invites and not as google calendar invites?

iOS 11.2.5

Hey, Maria!

Thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities. After reading your post, I see that you are using a Gmail email account as your Apple ID for iCloud. A number of years ago, you were using Google Calendar, but have since switched to iCloud. The problem, if I understand, is that when someone sends you an invitation to that email address, instead of going to iCloud, it goes to your Google Calendar. I'm happy to help!

First, I would recommend making sure that iCloud is set as the default calendar everywhere you use it: Get help using iCloud Contacts, Calendars, or Reminders - Apple Support .

I also suggest making sure that you do not have the Calendar option enabled on your devices for your Gmail account:
  • On an iOS device, tap Settings > Accounts & Passwords > [your Gmail account] > Calendars toggle should be off (grey, not green).
  • On a Mac, go to the Apple  menu > System Preferences > Internet Accounts > [your Gmail account. If you see more than one account for the Gmail listed, choose the one that says "Calendars" underneath] > make sure the Use for Calendars option is off.
After this, have someone send an event invitation to you. If it still is going to the Gmail account, you may need to make adjustments with your Google Calendar directly. You can check out Google's support page for Calendar here: Calendar Help .

Have a great day!
