New iPad Pro 10.5" consantly crashing

Moved from iPad Air 2 64GB to Pro 10.5" 256GB

IOS 11.2.5
Set up as new, keeps crashing, tried a couple times but now done with iPad.

Returning.

How can that be that such an expensive device doesn't work.

One day when Apple adds a proper OS for productivity and interfaces, memory expansion, iPad becomes more than just a Netflix viewer to me I may jump back to iPad.
For now the iPad Pro will be returned, overall disappointed.

Why didn't you just get another iPad Pro?

It’s possible that you may have had a defective device.

As far as your other comments are concerned,

Been an iPad user for nearly 8 years!

I seem to be able to do quite a bit of work and projects on my 12.9 inch iPad Pro.

I can write, note take, story write, draw, sketch, conceptualise/ideate, paint and even play/record and mix my own music on my iPad Pro.

And very recently, can even do nearly pro level video editing on my iPad Pro!

Been waiting for professional level video/movie editing for iOS for a VERY long time.

I can also do professional image editing on my iPad Pro, now!

What, EXACTLY, did you want to do with the 10.5 inch screen iPad Pro you returned without trying another unit?

I am beginning to think that this post might be a troll post?

You could’ve simply returned this, obviously, defective iPad Pro for another.

You do not seem like a person with very much patience to just return a device right away and not simply try another one and set it up in the store to make sure it is working properly.

You didn’t gives the iPad Pro a fair shake, at all, IMHO.

That’s why Apple has a 14-day return policy.

Whatever, no one really cares about your complaints/criticisms.

You are only posting your rant to other iPad users here and no of importance from Apple.

Always buy a device or tool that meets your needs.

I think you had a bias against Apple and the iPad Pro going in.

Whatever.

I don’t know about Home security and certificates being loaded on an iPad?

Are you using Home Kit with your iPads?

Any iPad that you purchase you would have to initially setup as new, then you restore the new IPad from a previous backup that you should have made.

You make no sense.

If you didn’t like the iOS versions of Adobe apps, there are image editing apps on par with their desktop counterparts.

If you want a fully function professional image editing apps for iPad, the two that fit this description are Affinity Photo AND Pixelmator!

The iPad lineup is never going to be a MacBook/MacBook Pro/Windows replacement as long as Apple is still selling Macbook.

iPads may get closer to a laptop computer replacement over time, but ANY iPads are still companion devices.

That stated, I DO and have learned, after nearly 8 years, to use iPads as a pretty reasonable replacement for more expensive laptop models, even the more expensive Surface book lineups can get very expensive!

So, I have learned to do pretty much everything I currently do from my nearly 10 year old iMac with varying degrees of successes and/or frustrations, from time to time.

If you already owned an iPad Air 2, what were you expecting, then?

The big advantage with an iPad Pro is the Apple Pencil, which I don’t even like or use.

I prefer using the Adonit Pixel as my preferred smart, Bluetooth stylus of choice.

The Apple Pencil REALLY seperates the Pro iPads from the regular model iPads.

So, if you didn’t have/use the Apple Pencil, then YEAH, I can sort of see why an iPad Pro wssn’t much of an upgrade, as far as the iOS goes.

But..

Also, your iPad Air 2 doesn't have any of the better screen technology of the new iPad Pro.

No 120 Hz refresh rate. No tru-tone technology.

I use my iPads cameras for creating videos and images and the new iPhone 7 camera technologies on BOTH FaceTime and rear cameras built into the 2nd gen iPad Pro models is great!

I have the older 12.9 inch iPad Pro, but I still get a pretty good 8mp rear camera.

Also, no 4-speaker audio on an iPad Air or the new iPad 5th generation models.

I purchased the Pro models because the Pro iPad models are the only iPads that are offering LARGER SCREEN SIZES!!

I have been waiting for larger screen iPads for five years.

The 12.9 inch screen, iPad, for me, allows a lot bigger drawing area and works very well for a drawing sketchbook, writing notebook and very well for music/video creation, for my own needs.

The 4-speaker audio system was just a plus for me.

So, you just feel like there was not enough “value added” improvements to justify the costs of the iPad Pro.

Yeah, that’s an entirely valid argument.

Actually the “new” lower priced, 2017 iPad 5th generation is closer to your older iPad Air 2 than the iPad Pro is and even the new iPad 5th generation has a faster CPU/GPU and some new features your iPad Air 2 doesn’t have.

Well, Good Luck to You, anyways!

I do appreciate your reply, still, deleting/editing user comments to me is still not cool, I can't edit your comments nor would I if I could.

I think you right about Surface. In a couple years when the form factor is more manageable that will be a notebook replacement for many. I don't want multiple devices, I want one device that gets the job done.

When first getting into iPad I was OK with the limitations, but not anymore.
The OS could have evolved for Pro, but for obvious reasons it never has and probably never will, after all, Apple has a lot of notebooks for sale...
This concludes my post about the iPad Pro 10.5" crashing, most likely a hardware issue, me not seeing the progression since iPad Air 2, getting frustrated....

To be honest, it just takes too much time to set up iPad as new and all the Apps from scratch...

I have home security and certificates to install, takes almost half a day...

Not a troll post but then, I definitely do not work for Apple :-)

I’m just frustrated because the ipad ”pro”does nothing better to me than the iPad Air 2. I tried to use instead of my notebook for Lightroom work but no way, it just doesn’t work for me, that’s why I wrote I’m basically using for media consumption exclusively.

Anyhow, it can’t be so difficult for Apple to make the iPad a true notebook replacement with a different OS.

A bit simplified, iPad right now is just a large iPhone, at least for me.

Yes, most often I close the Apps, I don't keep them running.
Now back to using iPad Air 2 and not one crash. Pretty sure it was a hardware issue.

To MichelPM
I read your reply again and you really have good points.
I didn't intent to use a pen or keyboard when checking out the "Pro", I was looking for a replacement

for the Air 2 and the 10.5" came close.

I just got frustrated when it didn't work after spending all that money, so yes, I was probably ranting.

Having said that, it's still a fantastic high resolution screen.

Ranting and complaining in these forums is not allowed per the ASC Terms of Use we all agree to when we all sign up here.

Once, again, since you own an iPad Air 2, YOU know there has NEVER, EVER been support for ANY mice or trackpads.

The iPad Pro moniker has never meant anything about mouse or trackpad support.

Stylus and Apple Pencil support is what the “Pro” in iPad Pro is about.

And like I previously stated, I have never needed a mouse in 8 years to be fully productive on iPad.

It seems to me you just never learned to use iOS the way it is meant to be used and to work with documents/ notes/images, whatever, within the iOS framework that is given.

While I can’t realstically state that I have had ZERO issues with doing some tasks within iOS, solutions to certain tasks CAN be found and some of my working issues were solved by others, simply by searching in these forums and through web searches online.

I have never used a laptop in my life, so I learned to make iOS and iPads work for me for the past 8 years!

Again, your original rant seems to indicate very litle patience for learning how to do things the iOS way and you still did not give ANY iPad a fair shake.

Two weeks of trying to do real work on an iPad is NOT enough time and effort.

Many iOS apps work differently than, say, a program that you are intimately familiar with on a full blown laptop/desktop computer.

Many apps in iOS DO exactly what similar desktop/laptop apps do, but may have to go about it differently due to the way iOS works.

Users, like yourself, simply want tablet computers, like iPads, to work like the Mac OS or Windows software.

Ain’t gonna happun!

If you need that kind of computing environment, stick with MacBook/MacBook Pros or Windows laptops OR look into the much more expensive Windows Surface tablet lineups that use a full version of Windows, use Pen/stylus, mice/trackpads and the new Surface Dial and have scads of ports, if you need ‘em.

The iPad, obviously, is NOT for you, for a productivity tool.

You don’t want to be bothered with the time and effort needed to learn new ways to be productive on iOS and iPads.

This is what your statements come across as.

Purchase a tool that works for you, the iPad is not the device or tool for you!

Tim Cook didn’t lie about anything.

There are plenty of iPad Pro users out there using their iPad Pros everyday and being quite productive.

You can see how productive iPad Pro users are just by searching YouTube videos to see how much work is being dine on iPad Pros.

It is simply not the device for you.

Purchase the right device you really need. Yoo WILL be paying more, though.

There is no free lunch!
